Dresden sports scholarship holder wins the gold medal in the four-man kayak over 500 metres at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Great jubilation at the Olympic finals in canoe racing: TUD student Tom Liebscher-Lucz wins the gold medal over 500 metres with the German kayak four in Paris. In an exciting race, the photo finish ultimately decided the German team's win ahead of the Australian team, with the team from Spain taking bronze.

We went into the final with confidence. In the end, it doesn't matter that it was by millimetres. Gold is gold.

It is already the third Olympic gold for Tom Liebscher-Lucz after 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2021 in Tokyo.

On Friday, the Dresden canoeist will once again compete in the 2-man kayak together with Max Rendschmidt. Alongside their team-mates Max Lemke and Jakob Schopf, they are among the favourites for the medal places.

Tom Liebscher-Lucz is one of eight sports scholarship holders currently supported by TU Dresden. All information about the sports scholarship at TU Dresden can be found on the TUD website. The current scholarship holders also introduce themselves here.

The members of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences "Friedrich List" at TU Dresden would like to congratulate the budding traffic engineer and his team colleagues on this great success.

In life, it is crucial to have a plan B up your sleeve. That’s why I am continuously trying to keep up my studies alongside training. It’s not always easy, but it’s an important safety net.
