AT the beginning of April, the MITMACH Lab at Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Straße 5 in the former "Wassermann" restaurant in Hoyerswerda opened. Prof. Dr. Günther Prokop, Head of the Chair of Automotive Engineering at TU Dresden and contact person for the "Safety of networked and automated road traffic" (SivaS) research project, was among the guests of Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh.

The MITMACH Lab Hoyerswerda opened on April 2, 2024. The SivaS project, the Smart Mobility Lab, the Low Seismic Lab of the German Center for Astrophysics and the Zentrum Bauen und Wohnen are represented on site. The regionally based projects are now to be explained and made more accessible to the citizens of Lusatia through the hands-on lab.

The concept of "learning by doing" is the focus of the hands-on lab, in order to make the background to the various projects tangible and understandable. In addition to an information terminal about the structural change projects, the lab also offers a driving simulator - on loan from the Barkhausen Institute Dresden. There, visitors can drive a vehicle themselves on a simulated racetrack. While driving, data on driving style is recorded, which is then used to teach artificial intelligence how to drive. The learning outcome of the AI depends largely on the quality and scope of the data available for learning - so large and accurate data sets are crucial for the performance of the AI. For those who would like to explore this topic further, there is also a slot machine that explores the boundaries between AI and reality. In addition to the technical devices, there are tangible exhibits in the building and living area. Interested citizens have the opportunity to take part in various experiments with cutting-edge technology if they sign up to a list on site. In the future, regular events such as workshops, lectures and discussion rounds will enable and promote exchange on various scientific topics of the future.

The MITMACH Lab Hoyerswerda describes itself as "an open place for education, encounters, active participation and pioneering research projects in Hoyerswerda and the region" - with the aim of shaping the future together.

Opening hours MITMACHLabor Hoyerswerda

The MITMACH Lab opens its doors every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am to 12 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

In addition to state-of-the-art research infrastructure at TU Dresden (...) it is research projects such as SivaS that form the foundations for the global automated, connected, safe and efficient mobility of the future. Important impulses for this will come from Eastern Saxony.

Prof. Günther Prokop, TU Dresden

Research projects such as SivaS provide important impulses for local structures and make a sustainable contribution to a successful change in Hoyerswerda and the Lusatia region.

Torsten Ruban-Zeh, Mayor City of Hoyerswerda
