29 impressive young research projects were presented at the Saxon state competition of "Jugend forscht" on 27 March 2021. Six of them had dealt with the topics of transport and mobility in some form. They were all selected for the "Special Mobility Prize". The "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences awarded this prize for the first time this year.

The decision was very close - especially at the top. That's why "new juror" Prof. Arnd Stephan, head of the Chair of Electrical Railways at the faculty, spontaneously and enthusiastically decided to double the prize on the part of the faculty.

An internship at the faculty including laboratory visits, the supervision of a scientific paper and an annual museum ticket go to:

• Maximilian Kraeft (17 years, Carl-von-Bach-Gymnasium, Stollberg) - his project: Application of neural networks in autonomous robotics.
• Fabian Ganzer (19 years, Dreikönigsschule Grammar School, Dresden) - his project: Investigation of possibilities for controlling electromagnetically supported systems

"Seeing how commitment to research arises from motivation, how the young people were determined to get something out of it and stuck with it for many months - that impressed me a lot about this competition," enthuses Arnd Stephan. He sees the decision to award the new special prize for mobility as a confirmation: "Across all categories there were projects related to transport and mobility. This shows how broadly based our research field of transport is and how many points of contact there are with other disciplines such as computer science, mathematics, physics, etc. We offer many possible applications. This is also exciting for young people, as it touches on their lives and experiences."

The staff of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences warmly congratulate all participants of the state competition for these impressive achievements and keep their fingers crossed for all those qualified for the national competition.
