The TU Dresden and the City of Dresden are currently collecting data on urban mobility again via app. Interested people are invited to participate until 18 July and at the same time get to know their own mobility better.

"Dresden on the move - urban transport on the pulse of time." Under this title, the Mobility Research Group at the Institute for Transport Planning and Road Traffic at the Faculty of Transport Sciences "Friedrich List" at the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) is continuing the city-wide survey with the TravelVu app. The aim is to gain insights and conclusions for needs-based urban transport. In cooperation with the state capital of Saxony Dresden, randomly selected people and their households will be contacted and asked to help by participating for 7 days. Interested people can also participate and thus help to make Dresden's urban transport more adaptable and oriented towards current needs.

In the descriptive app design, you can track how you get around in and around Dresden and how much time is spent on various activities. Learning algorithms and sensors in the smartphone support the recording and suggest means of transport and activities. In addition, it is possible to track one's own routes and activities on an interactive map and adjust them if necessary. Participants support the city's transport planning with every recorded day they confirm in the app - and can thus also get to know their own mobility better through interesting evaluations.

3rd wave of the survey: 900 Dresdeners are already taking part

"Results during the relaxations last year show that our everyday life has changed: Journeys have turned out to be shorter and have been made more often on foot or by bicycle," explains Professor Regine Gerike, head of the research group. "Between relaxation and caution, we are asking ourselves again, a good year after the start of the pandemic, what mobility in the city looks like today - and whether initial trends will continue."

The third wave of the survey started on 17 May and will run until 18 July: "More than 900 Dresdeners are already taking part - and often support us well beyond one week. For the most comprehensive result possible, we are happy about every additional person who participates in the survey," reports Johannes Weber, research project staff member. "By means of a survey via app, we are able to map mobility in dynamic times flexibly and accurately. We are grateful for any feedback on this innovative form of survey and are happy to provide support."

Simply download the app and off you go - data is evaluated anonymously.

Participation is voluntary. Anyone over the age of 18 who spends most of their time in Dresden can take part. All they have to do is download the TravelVu app from the well-known app stores. The app is free of charge and also available in English. Registration for use is not required.

The data are evaluated anonymously, conclusions about the individual person are not possible. The provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (DS-GVO) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) are complied with.

Important: The TravelVu app only serves to record mobility behaviour with routes, purposes, means of transport used, etc. ("tracking"). There is no collection of Corona infections or routes (no "tracing").
