The promotion of cycling is of great importance from the point of view of climate protection, health promotion and the improvement of urban quality of life. Numerous cities and municipalities support this with a variety of measures to promote cycling. However, the question of the impact of the implemented measures often arises. Evaluations can make an important contribution to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of existing cycling promotion measures. They provide the administration and politicians with the basis for future decisions and offer facts and arguments for the communication of cycling-related projects. Evaluations thus effectively contribute to the realisation of cycle-friendly cities and municipalities.

This is where the RADeval project at the Chair of Transport Ecology of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, TU Dresden, which was completed at the beginning of 2022, came in. The practical handbook developed within the project provides municipal planners and the interested public with user-friendly and low-threshold assistance in the evaluation of cycling projects. In addition to instructions on how to create an evaluation concept, the manual also presents survey methods in cycling and illustrates their application with examples.

The practical handbook was published electronically together with the final report on the project (only in German) - and funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure from funds for the implementation of the National Cycling Plan.
