How can the electrified infrastructure of city buses be used sensibly in intercity bus transport? What investments are required to operate an intercity bus line with hybrid trolleybuses (HO buses)? At what point would the implementation of such a project be worthwhile?

These and other questions are answered by Prof. Arnd Stephan, leader of the Chair of Electric Railways at TU Dresden, and Richard Kayser, research associate at the chair, in the web seminar on "Hybrid trolleybuses - with voltage climate neutral" with Andreas Tietze, member of the Green Party in the Schleswig Holstein state parliament. In his presentation (minute 6:36 to 27:30), Prof. Stephan talks about,

  • which different possibilities there are in the field of (hybrid) trolleybuses and illustrates the technology with already existing examples,
  • what results the research work on HO buses at his professorship has produced so far,
  • which technical and economic factors speak for and against the use of trolleybus technology and
  • which technical and professional connections exist between electric mobility on the highway, on the rail and in bus transport.

Andreas Tietze said: "For 140 years, it has been true that electric trains are faster, better and cheaper! But trains don't run everywhere and we have enough buses with diesel engines in the country. That has to change!"

The web seminar on the topic "Hybrid trolleybuses - with voltage climate neutral" was published on the YouTube channel of Andreas Tietze on October 22, 2021.

Since June 2020, Andreas Tietze has been publishing web seminars about "After Corona: Rethinking Politics." In them, he talks with changing guests about the changes and challenges that the Corona pandemic is having on transportation in Germany and in general.
