The Saxon state capital is developing a concept for the design and management of its future mobility and transport development. The associated scientific advisory board is lead by the Dresden transport scientist Prof. Regine Gerike.

The plans for the development of the "Dresden Mobility Plan 2035+" were presented at a digital press conference on 28 April 2021. Prof. Regine Gerike from the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences  at the TU Dresden was also present. She is the head of the advisory board that provides the city with scientific advice and technical and methodological support in the preparation of the mobility plan.

The head of the Chair for Integrated Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering placed the project in the European context of mobility planning and spoke about the challenges of urban mobility in the future. In addition to reducing emissions, these include safety issues and competition for space in cities. The scientist sees opportunities for sustainable transport and mobility through digitalisation and the resulting innovative mobility offers. In addition, there are current topics such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which has a great influence on mobility behaviour, e. g. in the use of different means of transport. "Therein lie opportunities and challenges," says Regine Gerike.

She gives Dresden's planning culture in terms of mobility an excellent report card. "Already since 1950, the city has regularly developed and implemented transport development plans. That is a great asset. The new Mobility Plan 2035+ can build on this. I am sure it will be a success for sustainable mobility in Dresden," assesses the professor. With its good mobility planning, the city of Dresden has already made it to the finals of the European Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) Award of the European Commission twice.

Development of Dresden Mobility Plan 2035+

- Duration of overall process: approx. 2.5 years (depending on pandemic situation) until 2023

- Next steps in the project:

> Project group, steering committee and advisory board have been working since February 2021.

> Participation of citizens on mobility principles

> First "Dresden Mobility Dialogue 2035+" in July 2021,

> Second dialogue in November 2021 on objectives and ideas

> Key objectives for discussion in politics and the public as of 2022

> Presentation and decision in the expert committee (ASBVL)

The Dresden Mobility Plan 2035+ is intended to be the roadmap to the future so that we can all travel comfortably, flexibly and safely in the future. A roadmap with which we can maintain an urban, liveable city and provide an effective response to the climate crisis.
