What influence have developments such as digitalization or sustainability on logistics and supply chain management?

On September 15 and 16, the 12th Logistics Management Conference LM 21 took place at TU Dresden. The focus was on the discussion of what influence current developments such as digitalization, sustainability and disruptions have on logistics and supply chain management.

The organizer of this online conference is the German Academic Association of Business Research (VHB), Section Logistics. Due to the Corona pandemic, the organizing team Jörn Schönberger, Rainer Lasch und Udo Buscher from the faculties of Transport and Traffic Sciences as well as Business and Economics decided to host this biennial conference online for the first time.

68 scientists, 34 presentations, 1 Best Paper Award

68 scientists attended a total of 34 lectures, each of which was held in two parallel sessions. The programme was enriched by the plenary lectures of Alexander Hohlfeld from Deutsche Bahn and Prof. Christian Bierwirth from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. All accepted papers will be published in the book series "Lecture Notes in Logistics (LNL)" published by Springer-Verlag.

In addition, a Best Paper Award was presented, which was supported by the DHL Hub Leipzig for the second time. Barbara Himstedt and Prof. Dr. Frank Meisel from Christian Albrechts University in Kiel received the award for their paper "A Systematic Evaluation of Extensions for the Shared Customer Collaboration Vehicle Routing Problem". The paper aims to optimise the collaboration of service providers in order to supply individual recipients simultaneously with shipments from several logistics service providers. In their paper, the team of authors uses a model already known in the literature, explicitly names where extensions are necessary and stringently implements them.

Since it was not possible to hold a conference in person this year, the next Logistics Management conference is to be held again in Dresden from 13.09. to 15.09.2023. Then the participants will hopefully also have the chance to enjoy the beautiful "Florence on the Elbe" with its cultural beauties.
