Chair of Automobile Engineering
Fan Chang works at Audi AG and is doing his doctorate on the topic of "Rollover stability of passenger cars" as part of the INI.TUD cooperation project at TU Dresden.
The dynamic rolling characteristics of passenger cars are complex and are determined by an interaction of tyres, elasto-kinematics of the chassis, body dynamics and control systems. Due to the increasing number of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in new passenger car registrations, the issue of rollover safety is increasingly becoming a focus of vehicle safety. These vehicles have a comparatively high centre of gravity and are therefore more susceptible to rollovers than other vehicles. This is where Fan Chang's research comes in as a doctoral student at the Chair of Automobile Engineering at the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, TU Dresden.
His paper on the subject of rollover safety recently convinced a wide audience of experts at this year's congress of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Ingénieurs des Techniques de l'Automobile (FISITA). Fan Chang won the "Outstanding Paper Award". His publication was also nominated for the "Manuel Junoy Memorial Prize".
The "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Science congratulates Fan Chang and all co-authors for this achievement and wishes them continued success.
"INI.TUD" cooperation project
The INI.TUD cooperation between the Ingolstadt Institute of AUDI AG and TU Dresden was launched in 2014. The aim of the cooperation is to contribute the expertise of the University of Excellence TU Dresden in the field of automotive engineering to specific Audi research projects. The TU Dresden has a wealth of experience in the fields of automotive engineering, lightweight construction, production engineering and other specialist areas. In particular, the cooperation provides practice-oriented support for young researchers.
So far, the cooperation has produced more than a dozen scientific papers in the fields of vehicle dynamics, automated driving, road safety, traffic psychology, lightweight construction and recycling management.
