Award
Successful presentation of the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics at the 2nd Aerospace Aviation Congress Interdisciplinary International (AACII) in Nuremberg: In addition to research presentations by the chair holder Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hartmut Fricke, Dr.-Ing. Hannes Braßel, research assistant at the chair, receives the Global AACII Award for his dissertation and his commitment to teaching and research.
Dr.-Ing. Hannes Braßel receives the Global AACII Award 2025 for his dissertation entitled “Enhanced Surveillance and Conflict Prediction for Airport Apron Operation using LiDAR Sensing”. In it, he dealt with the development and testing of optical detection methods for automated surveillance to improve safety on the apron of airports. His work is located at the intersection of aviation safety, sensor technology and computer-aided modeling.
The international award is also in recognition of his commitment to teaching and research. As a research assistant at the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics, Hannes Braßel holds the lectures “Safety” and “Research Tasks in Air Transport and Logistics” on the Master's degree course in Air Transport and Logistics. He is also involved as ERASMUS coordinator at the chair: “The ERASMUS program offers students the opportunity to gain valuable experience abroad and to further develop their professional and personal skills. This makes a significant contribution to promoting young talent for international cooperation in the aerospace industry and broadening their horizons”, says Hannes Braßel.
In his research work, Hannes Braßel focuses in particular on traffic safety in airspace. In his current research project Air-Take-Off, he is working on collision prevention between drones and manned aviation. Most recently, he also completed the RescueFLY project, in which the potential of drone technology for water rescue was investigated, and ReMAP, an air traffic simulation for risk analysis and conflict resolution in approach and take-off procedures. In addition, as Scientific Facility Manager, the aeronautical engineer is responsible for planning the TAFAS (Test Center for Automated Flying and Autonomous Systems) in the future Smart Mobility Lab at the TUD | Forschungscampus Lausitz.
The plans for the future Smart Mobility Lab were also presented as part of a project presentation at the AACII Congress.

Aviation Aerospace Congress Nuernberg
Under the motto “Together for a better world”, the 2nd AACII CONGRESS took place on February 12, 2025 in Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg.
The congress is a platform for a wide range of aerospace topics, including aviation aerospace, new mobility, drones, satellite technology and flying objects.
The Global AACII Award serves to promote interdisciplinary cooperation in theory and practice and recognizes in particular the presentation and processing of complex interrelationships in the field of aerospace for a broad public. “Transparency leads to acceptance, part of the responsibility of all of us,” says the congress website.
The award was presented by Prof. Dr. Jörn Wilms from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth. Hannes Braßel sees the award as an opportunity: “I am delighted to receive the award and to have the opportunity to share my work with like-minded people from all over the world. I firmly believe that by fostering innovation, providing a solid educational foundation and strategically developing research capabilities, we can drive positive change in aviation and beyond.”
We congratulate Hannes Braßel on his award and wish him continued success in his research activities at our faculty.
