Prof. Yihui Wang researches and teaches as an associate professor at the School of Automation and Intelligence at Beijing Jiaotong University. In her research and teaching activities, she focuses on the areas of railroad signaling, train planning and dispatching, energy-efficient train control and model predictive control and artificial intelligence. Since May 6, we have welcomed her to our faculty as a Dresden Senior Fellow.

Yihui Wang graduated with a B.Sc. in Automation Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, China, in 2007. In 2014, she received her PhD in the field of optimization and control of railroad systems at the Delft Center for Systems and Control at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She then has been worked as an associate professor at the State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety at Beijing Jiaotong University before moving to the School of Automation and Intelligence.

Prof. Wang has led over 15 research projects and has published an academic monograph and more than 80 academic papers. She has served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Transport Studies at University College London, a member of the Standing Committee of AR030 at the Transportation Research Board (TRB), a member of the International Subcommittee of the Informs Railway Applications Section, and a member of the editorial board of the IEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems.

There has been a close collaboration with the Chair of Railway Operations for some time: "Nikola Bešinović (note: holder of the Chair of Railway Operations) and I have already worked on several joint research projects and publications over the last 10 years," says Ms. Wang.

The professor has set herself ambitious goals for her three-month stay as a visiting researcher at TU Dresden:

"We want to continue our collaboration on the research topic “Joint optimization of train operation and passenger evacuation for metro lines during natural disasters" and develop joint project proposals on this topic. We will also organize seminars on traffic management in urban rail systems for students of the faculty. I would also like to connect to other chairs at the faculty in order to initiate possible future collaborations."

Yihui Wang is looking forward to her time in Dresden with great anticipation: "I have already gotten to know the old town on a tour of the city with my new colleagues. I'm impressed by how beautiful the city is and I'm very happy to be here."

We warmly welcome Yihui Wang to our faculty and wish her an exciting time.

"During my stay, we want to further strengthen the cooperation between our universities and exchange ideas and experiences from our research activities as well as in the supervision and teaching of students." - Yihui Wang
